Antibody Discovery and Genomics and Blockchain Solutions
Berkeley Lights opto-nanofluidic platforms are enabling interactive biology at the cellular level and empowering scientists and researchers to study and interact with single cells in ways never before possible. Headquartered in Emeryville, California, Berkeley Lights is working with biopharma and biotech companies to facilitate drug discovery and cell line development, and with research institutes on single-cell annotation and genomics.
"The day you stop learning is the day you stop living" - Isaac Asimov I started my career when the term "NGS" replaced "DNA Sequencing". As part of Roche, our team was the first to develop a bench-top NGS instrument (GS-Junior) democratizing the field of genomics. I developed chemistry and instrumentation making it a robust system for any academic or industrial lab. After 3 years at 454 life sciences (Roche), I got an opportunity to set up an NGS facility at Cell Signaling Technology (CST). At CST my goal was to solve the immune repertoire sequencing challenge. The immune sequencing challenge is unique where noise (sequence error) overcasts novel VDJ recombination (signal). By leveraging Microfluidics and novel barcoding design, we were successful in teasing apart the signal from the noise. At Berkeley Lights, I focus on generating novel ideas to understand the functional response of immune cells at single-cell resolution. We developed methods to screen for functional antigen-specific antibodies in one-day I took a short hiatus from being a bench scientist and took up the product manager role at 10x Genomics. I managed the Single Cell Immune Profiling product line that was generating revenue in 9 digits growing at >25%.
