As a member of the Scottish Water Executive Shirley is the Director for People, Workplace and Organisational Development. She is a member of the Remuneration Committe, the Business Ethics Committee and leads the Scottish Water International business. She is a Non Executive Director for BT (Scotland) and a Lay Member of Court at the University of Dundee. Shirley is a member of the University of Dundee's Remuneration Committee and Chairs the University of Dundee's Human Resources Committee. In 2016 Scottish Water acheived Investors in Young People Gold accreditation and were named as Scotlands "Fair Work Employer" at the Scottish Business Awards, they also won the HR Networks "Best Workplace in Scotland" award for the second time in 2016. In 2015 they became Scotland's best place to work for graduates and most family friendly employer. She personally became the Institute of Directors Female Director of the year in 2017.
