Love stories? I do. Powerful ones that captivate us in books, the ones that persuade, or light up a conversation, and the ones we tell each other about the future we reach for. So, in my life I have written novels – some more successful than others- and travelled widely, seeking for the experiences that can thread together into something extraordinary. But what I have most enjoyed is building the story of the businesses I work for, either as Communications Director of a major utility, or as M.D. of one of Scotland’s biggest Advertising and PR Agencies, or right now for the clients of WallaceTransform – asking myself what are the actions, products and service of what we are describing, where is the unique value created, and what is its story; how can it be re-imagined into a compelling, authentic and sustainable narrative to best engage customers, workforce and stakeholders. Of course, across my career, I have been tasked many times to make sure ‘we get our message out’, often by those with clearly no idea of what those messages should be, or create a campaign that ticks seventy-two boxes but makes no impression, or listen to a forty-minute CEO address to drive home later and realise I cannot remember a single point that was meant to be made.
