I'm often teased about how often I "go to the whiteboard!" But it's who I am and what I do. At heart, I love being a teacher. In that role, you need to help people understand the "what" and the "why" if you want them to engage. That approach has served me well in the military, as a physician and as an administrator. I started my career in the military with the Air Force and later with the Ohio Air National Guard, taking on roles that allowed me to serve my country as a pilot and teach others how to fly and lead. Down a parallel path, I became a physician serving my country and my community in this capacity as well. My journey at OhioHealth began as a family medicine resident at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. I fell in love with the place, the people and the patient care. I've been here ever since. The ability to inspire and impact physicians, pilots, leaders, associates—even my three boys in college—is something I see as a privilege and a responsibility. It’s what energizes me. That's what leadership is all about: helping people imagine "what if" and doing it with an unwavering commitment to values. I learned that in the military, at the bedside and as a healthcare administrator. I feel fortunate that my career has given me unique opportunities to serve others. It's a trajectory that wouldn't have happened without support from many mentors. Leadership, simply put, tells a story of legacies: the ones we carry on, and the ones we strive to create.
