Manager, Device Partner Security
Hitachi Vantara drives data to meaningful outcomes.
I have two+ decades of broad industry experience. Starting out working on a network application gateway, my first foray into security was in user access controls. When my company wanted to connect to the fledgling Internet, I dug in and figured out how. Next I joined a Japanese company in Silicon Valley, learned about ISDN, switches, and routers, and then I created one of the first implementations of the developing IPsec protocol stack. I went on to design/implement VPN systems and firewalls, and when everyone realized we needed secure and scalable wifi solutions, I joined a startup that created one of the first. Next, I worked in instant messaging security, and that evolved into web content filtering, policy enforcement, and spyware detection. I had a brief stint with a bandwidth aggregation startup before returning to wifi security, where I was the first to propose (and implement!) TPMs for platform security in wifi equipment. From there I joined Netflix, where I spent 5+ years shaping platform security for the content streaming industry. In 2014 I left Netflix to launch a startup. I spent a year learning about how business works, completing courses in Machine Learning, Data Science, R Programming, and Android development, and prototyping for concept validation and demonstration. Ultimately I decided to invest in a related startup, and to rejoin Netflix to participate in the exciting global expansion that's currently underway. I'm a thought leader, with 7 patents and more in progress. I've published 7 Internet RFCs and 2 TCG standards. I'm an invited expert in TCG, and an invited member of the IETF security directorate. I was one of the first to propose the Trusted Execution Environment as a solution for content protection in open systems. And I’m continually updating my skills, most recently earning a graduate certificate in cybersecurity from Stanford. Read on below to see more of what I've been up to.
