In September of 2011, I made the decision to join the Harris Health System. It was one of the better decisions I’ve made for my career. Harris Health is an integrated healthcare system that serves the needs of the uninsured/underinsured population in Houston, Texas. The organization is committed to achieving excellence in the quality of care they deliver to this vulnerable population. Nursing services is aligned with this commitment and working to achieve Magnet status. In my tenure here, I’ve had the opportunity to partner with physicians in Women’s Services to bring TeamSTEPPS training to the department. We’ve implemented several initiatives relative to this and have seen significant improvements in the teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff in the department. As we've gone through organizational changes and restructuring, I have accepted the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive for the Health System and am now working closely with the hospital and ambulatory care service CNOs to continue to move nursing forward.
