I strive to learn something new every day. That small goal enabled my rapid progression in the television broadcast industry. I began my career as an installer for a broadcast systems integrator. My background in computer networking and information technology was a great asset, as I was entering the industry during its metamorphosis from traditional linear designs to next-gen designs employing video servers, disk storage, NLE's, HD MPEG-2 compression, etc. While working on a PBS project, the project manager took note of my capabilities and hired me as a systems engineer. My first assignment was a multi-million dollar news production system based on multi-format video servers, media asset management, SAN-attached NLE's, and network-attached proxy browse/edit clients. From there I managed design and constructions of news production systems for affiliate stations and networks. Those opportunities soon led to master control and network origination projects, and then to the final distribution compression and release (DTV encoding, studio-to-transmitter links, fiber to MSO's, network uplinks, etc). I am now involved in future next-gen systems design involving 1080p and 3D. My responsibility begins with conceptual design and equipment selection, and ends when my customer takes ownership of a seamlessly integrated system.
