Passion and communication are two traits that I believe most reflect me as an individual. They are qualities that have driven me in my quest to educate and support those in need. Throughout my time working as a Peer Advocate for Wellness and WIC, I’ve faced many challenges, such as learning that I cannot fix individual. My role as a health educator is to present information and it is up to the individual to decide to fix themselves. Although both experiences are unique I’ve found that the responsibilities I held could only be managed by an individual with resolve. It is my belief that this passion is the key to being successful in any endeavor that one set’s their mind to. This dedication and attentiveness are essential principles needed to improve not just a single community, but society as whole. Without enthusiasm, communication and some degree of positivity, we cannot bring about the change that is needed to better the lives of those who seek our aid. While working at both jobs, and from growing up in Oakland, I have found that community building and education are essential to improve of the lives of individuals. I want to continue to be that beacon of services to communities that may need additional help to achieve optimal health.
