Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer

CarMax is an automotive retail company engaged in automotive repair and business of used cars.

As executive vice president, general counsel, chief compliance officer, and chief human resources officer at CarMax, I oversee the company’s legal affairs, government relations, and compliance and ethics programs as well as lead the human resources, asset protection and corporate social responsibility functions. I interface with the CarMax Board on various issues such as succession planning, diversity & inclusion, Board governance, CSR, ESG and legal risk. In my capacity as general counsel and chief compliance officer, I champion integrity and work to protect CarMax’s values by overseeing the legal and compliance needs for the company, including corporate governance, labor and employment law, consumer finance law, automotive regulatory law, litigation, intellectual property, government affairs and the corporate ethics programs. As the CHRO, my goal is to create an iconic associate experience while ensuring a people-first culture. I work to develop innovative people solutions to support CarMax’s award winning culture and drive company transformation and growth. I'm passionate about cultivating an engaging and inclusive work environment where all associates feel valued and respected. In addition, in leading the company's corporate social responsibility efforts, I am excited for the opportunity to make a positive societal impact as we build sustainable value for CarMax and its stakeholders. I am a member of the National Association of Dealer Counsel and served on its Board for 10 years, including as its Vice President. I am a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, HR Policy Association and World 50. I formerly served as a Board member and Governance Chair at Safe Harbor and served on the Richmond Jewish Foundation Board of Directors. I received my Bachelor of Arts in economics and international relations from Tufts University and my Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. I was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1995 and the District of Columbia State Bar in 1996.
