As a Banker of many years I have always been frustrated that the ‘big’ clients demanded the best rates and best terms whereas the smaller growing clients have tougher times securing the support that they need. The BDC gives me the freedom to work with Clients who are in growth or acquisition mode and provide support, advice and finance to achieve their dreams. Prior to moving to Canada (with my Wife, two small children and a 5-week old baby) I had worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group for 20-years. This experience taught me the clear and obvious benefits of partnering with like minded professionals. I really see my role in the BDC as ‘triage‘. I work with a great team of Consultants, Accountants, Lawyers and Bankers, all of whom have one thing at the foremost of their mind...the client. Building a team around the client to share in their success has always given me more satisfaction than any other aspect of my job. I have appeared on TV shows, professional continual education programs and as both an external and internal speaker on behalf of the Royal Bank. I have excelled in Business Development, Account Management and Personnel Management roles during my time with the RBS and I believe this provides me with a great insight into understanding the client’s needs. I joined the RBS at 16-years old (sorting cheques and making the tea) and progressed through Personal Account Manager, Small Business, Commercial and then Senior Commercial positions. In all things that I do, I try to have fun and remain positive and I strongly believe this transposes to everyone I work with. BDC is truly dedicated to its clients. This past year has been especially challenging for entrepreneurs yet BDC has been there to provide the support to help tackle these challenges.
