Dr. Andreas Garstenauer is the Director of Manufacturing Engineering for STIHL Inc., the headquarters of U.S. operations for the worldwide STIHL Group. The scope of responsibilities include new product launch management, efficiency improvements, tooling design and procurement utilizing a global supplier base for injection and blow molding, Tool & Die operations, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), industrial automation, special machine design & integration, digitalization in manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technologies & innovations management, engineering data & change management, industrial engineering, product durability testing, annual planning and strategic planning. Previous assignments at STIHL Inc. include chain saw guide bar plant management, quality assurance manager, manufacturing business unit manager for machining, senior manufacturing engineer and tool design engineer. Prior to STIHL Inc., Dr. Garstenauer worked at Esterline Technologies Pressure Systems, a manufacturer of aerospace, industrial and environmental pressure scanners and sensors, as Manager Manufacturing Engineering. At Sumitomo Drive Technologies, an international manufacturer of speed reducers and gear motors, Dr. Garstenauer gained experience as a Mechanical Designer. He learned and practiced the Machinist trade at the Austrian machine tool builder GFM GmbH.After graduating with a Ph.D., Dr. Garstenauer served four years as Adjunct Professor (Professorial Lecturer) and Research Advisor at The George Washington University. Dr. Andreas Garstenauer’s academic research is published in scholarly journals and he is listed as an inventor on patents. During his career, Dr. Garstenauer has been instrumental in the development and successful implementation of competitive manufacturing and quality strategies, the successful launch of numerous product lines and was a key contributor in his position for multiple national acclaimed awards:2013 AME Manufacturing Excellence Award2014 Assembly Plant of the Year2015 Processor of the Year2017 Excellence in Reusable Packaging Award
