Ned Hill has over 25 years of experience as an operator, consultant, and investor in technology companies, including 15 years as a venture capitalist, before joining Square 1 Bank to launch and lead venture lending and technology banking in Atlanta and surrounding markets.Prior to joining Square 1, Ned was a Managing Director with Mercury Fund (formerly DFJ Mercury), With over $200 million under management, Mercury invests in compelling and novel software and science-based startup opportunities, focusing on technology innovation originating in the U.S. Midcontinent. At Mercury, portfolio companies include(d) Deepfield (acq. by Nokia), Macheen (acq. by Good Technologies), ActaCell (acq. by Contour), Ambiq Micro, and Apto. Previously, Ned was a Partner with Sternhill Partners, a Texas-based early-stage venture capital firm, where he invested in and worked closely with pioneering start-ups in several important emerging markets, including WiFi (Boingo, IPO), WiMAX (Navini Networks, acq. by Cisco); blade servers (RLX Technologies, acq. by Hewlett-Packard); and virtualization (Surgient, acq. by Quest Software). Ned continues to serve on the boards of Mercury Fund portfolio companies Ambiq Micro, Apto, and DeepField. Previous Mercury board positions include Macheen (acq. Good Technology) and ActaCell (acq. Contour Energy Systems). Ned is a member of the Southeast Investment Group and the Southern Capital Forum, a mentor at the Atlanta Technology Village, and serves on the selection committee for Venture Atlanta.Previously, Ned was a mentor with seed accelerators TechStars Cloud (San Antonio, TX), TechStars Austin, and Surge (Houston, TX). In addition, Ned served on the boards of the Texas Venture Capital Association and the Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship and as an Adjunct Professor at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University where he co-developed and taught a course on venture capital.
