Though I began my career as an engineer in the R&D labs of a consumer goods company, I have shifted my focus to the nonprofit sector, specifically healthcare. My interest in healthcare lies in its overarching impact on all members of society: current inequities in the accessibility and affordability of high quality healthcare are vast, and these disparities touch all. In the United States, healthcare is undergoing a major transformation, and it is my professional goal to help lead these changes. I have a solid record of service in healthcare with nonprofit organizations. In 2004, I worked for the political action fund of 1199 SEIU, the health care workers union, building a deep understanding of the health care issues working Americans are facing. In 2006, I developed an organizational strategy as a consultant for India-based Aravind Eye Care Center, the world's largest eye care facility. In 2008, I worked with an urban safety-net hospital, designing an innovative operating model to care for uninsured patients in a financially sustainable way. This work was credited with enabling the hospital to regain profitability. Since 2009, I have held roles with progressively increasing responsibility at Healthfirst, a not-for-profit health plan focused on providing high quality health care coverage to Medicare and Medicaid populations in the NYC area. At Healthfirst, I have led programs and projects related to external quality bonuses (Medicare Stars, NYS Medicaid Incentive), internal incentives (provider pay for performance programs, provider quality improvements grants, member incentives), and corporate strategic initiatives (cultural competence, healthcare exchange opportunities).
