I have been in the concrete industry for over 35 years. My primary areas of expertise are architectural concrete, concrete mix design and quality control, and computer applications for concrete and aggregate quality control. My father, Jim, and I designed the seeMIX software for concrete mix designs, but eventually sold the software to another company. I now work for Command Alkon as their concrete technologist, helping to make their COMMANDqc quality control software the best it can be. Concrete producers can retain my professional services through Command Alkon, but Command Alkon allows me to do consulting for others under my own company, The Shilstone Companies, Inc.I am active in the American Concrete Institute (ACI), National Ready Mixed Concrete Assn. (NRMCA) RES and P2P committees, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee C-09. I am a Fellow of ACI and a certified NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 3.Electronic collaboration in the concrete industry has long fascinated me. I had a concrete computer Bulletin Board System (BBS) long before the Internet became popular. My shilstone.com domain was created in the mid 1990's, so I am a pioneer in the field of concrete on the Internet. I am now working on figuring out how to make social networking into a viable part of my computer life.
