Executive Director, Long Term Ecological Research Network
Australian National University is an education management institution which located in Canberra, ACT.
Contributing to the development of a better, more sustainable and empowered world is my life mission. I have experience working in diverse areas including government (State and Commonwealth), research, and consultancy. After many years in government, I developed a sound understanding of the functions, responsibilities, culture, processes and structure of government. I have executive management experience in both government and university sectors. My roles have required me to lead effectively, communicate clearly, liaise successfully, and to negotiate persuasively. I obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours (First Class) from UNSW in 1998, graduating at the top of my cohort. My honours research was conducted on the molecular ecology of the broad-headed snake (Hoplocephalus bungaroides). I completed a PhD in population genetics and phylogeography at UNSW in 2004 and my research resulted in a number of publications. My PhD research provided me with considerable experience in molecular genetics, wildlife management, systematics, ecology, conservation biology, and experimental design. My career post PhD has been focused on terrestrial ecology, ecological monitoring, science and environmental policy, and program management.
