I am a firm believer that curriculum must prepare the learner for their place in the world before their place in a job. As a curriculum designer for middle and high school and a course creator for iGCSE DT Resistant Materials, Systems and Control and IB Diploma Design Technology, I am mindful to balance concept-based teaching and learning with skills and practices, assisted by appropriate uses of blended learning and technology. I attempt to create learning experiences that provide authentic autonomy to both teacher and student, whilst incorporating low threshold high ceiling approaches to the content. I believe that students need to be given the opportunity and space to explore rather than make judgement, curriculum design should be centred on the student's experience through the understanding that more is achieved when learners are happy, entertained and feel connected to the content, each other and their place in the future.
