As USA TODAY's Managing Editor for Audience and Digital Platforms, Emily focuses on two main areas: - Audience engagement as it relates to our app, website, social media presence, newsletters, podcasts, news partnerships and messaging apps. - Representing the newsroom as a stakeholder with product, marketing and various components of the business. Previously: Deputy Managing Editor for Digital Platforms at USA TODAY, concentrating on both internal and external mobile platforms — including phone and tablet apps, mobile web and third-party news aggregates like Apple News, SmartNews and Flipboard. Emily steers push notification and SEO strategy, as well as the desktop and homepage experience. With a focus on audience, Emily guides content through its inception in the newsroom to the user experience, fine-tuned by the product team. Previously at USA TODAY, Emily was a Senior Manager on the Audience team, Senior Mobile Editor and Online Editor for National News. At Stars & Stripes, an independent military newspaper distributed on U.S. military bases worldwide, Emily was an assistant online editor. In addition to digital production responsibilities, Emily wrote feature stories and photographed events — from inside the White House and on the ground in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. As editor of AOL's CityGuide for Washington, D.C., Emily managed a team of writers for the events and entertainment website. Emily's career started as a features reporter for a mid-sized daily paper covering Northern Virginia. Emily has interviewed or photographed two former presidents, an attorney general, the secretary of defense, war heroes, rock stars and very inspiring "ordinary" people.
