Campus Research Facilitator

The UC Merced Centers provide an integral link to the university, extending its mission to serve the educational needs of residents throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Services such as undergraduate admissions information, summer courses for UC students, professional development, teacher training, and workshops for educators are offered at the centers. Office space and meeting facilities also are available for rent.

My motto: Let us make no small plans. I am a highly-creative digital technology leader and strategist. I am an expert communicator, who loves to present big ideas to inspire an audience. I manage million dollar cyberinfrastructure projects and have been the sole driving force in achieving my organization's goals to build a world-class visualization capability. I manage programs that range from small ($100K) to extended efforts sponsored by multiple stakeholders with budgets in the millions. I direct a small team of dedicated developers, partners outside my organization from academia and industry, and university staff to accomplish tasks not possible for any single group. I believe in Open Innovation. I participate in my community: ACM, AMPAS, SIGGRAPH, GLIF, CineGrid, IEEE and many others. And I get things done. I am a pioneer in networked media applications, such as 4K and 8K; remote tele-direction Motion Capture performances; and high performance computing for visualization, mega-pixel tiled displays, rendering and digital video. I engineered a tapeless workflow for classroom content capture in 2002 - video cloud services before the cloud existed. I've worked to extend my university's educational reach to distant lands and even to the deep ocean through Distance Learning. I blend an artist's aesthetic with an engineer's approach. I speak more than just geek; I also speak Korea, Spanish, French, and get by in several others.
