Brief Bio – Andrew Collins PQS (F), MRICS. Andrew is a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. He has retired from work as a charted surveyor except for his work as a current examiner for the examinations program. Andrew’s focus has become fully immersed in another career: that of seeking opportunities in artistic expression from different perspectives by applying the technology available today. As a lifetime musician he has continued to pursue his music as a performer, composer and recording artists (on Bandcamp); he has developed his video art (on Vimeo) and explores the endless scope of digital painting. He has been fortunate in participating in local, provincial and national art and TV exhibitions and events. Andrew continues to be inspired to explore the vast scope of artistic expression further using the tools that are available in this unique age of technology that we are fortunate to live in, even when times seem uncertain. Previously Andrew worked on the promotion, design and construction of environmentally sensitive buildings since the mid-70’s, constructing geodesic domes to explore energy efficiency in buildings. Over his career he has advocated and worked on the repurposing of existing facilities, encouraged the use of recycled and renewable materials, energy efficient systems and the reduction of GHG’s. He worked for over 40 years for government, banks, developers, institutional and commercial clients on 4 continents. Before retiring Andrew directed the Project Services group at the University of British Columbia responsible for delivering the design and construction of many significant building and utility projects. He was one of the key initiators of the “Campus as a Living Lab” initiative that explored and executed energy efficient projects in partnership with academics, researchers and industry contributors to promote the university campus as a “living lab” to further innovative ideas and start-up companies within the energy sector.
