I have been a reporter for the Austin American-Statesman since 1991, with three years of management experience as an assistant metro editor supervising six employees, and with four years as the newspaper's chief correspondent in Washington, DC. I primarily cover legal issues and politics, focusing on making complex issues understandable and interesting while negotiating tight deadlines. Skillful communication is the heart of my work. I post quickly online, then update throughout the day, often in coordination with photographers, other reporters and editors. I am the backup state editor, managing reporters when the editor is off -- assigning and editing stories and coordinating coverage with other editors.
