Andy Bowers is an award-winning journalist and pioneer in on demand audio. He co-founded podcasting’s leading full service company, Panoply Media, in 2015, after creating one of the industry’s first professional networks at Slate.com in 2005. As one of podcasting’s most experienced innovators, he speaks all over the world about the medium and its future. As Chief Content Officer of Panoply, Bowers manages original programming, including Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell and the scripted dramas The Message and LifeAfter (produced with GE Podcast Theater), and oversees podcasting partnerships with companies and authors including The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine/Vulture, Vox, Inc., BuzzFeed, Politico, Bon Appétit, First Look Media, Gretchen Rubin, Susan Cain, and Chris Guillebeau. He also works with Panoply’s developers to make sure the company’s industry-leading ad insertion and hosting platform Megaphone remains the most producer-friendly technology in the business. As a personal project with his daughter, Bowers created podcasting’s first dramatized children’s show, Molly and the Sugar Monster, in 2005.Bowers’s childhood passion for audio led him to a college internship at NPR. During his 20’s he became a White House and presidential campaign correspondent for the NPR, and was appointed the network’s London Bureau Chief. He also served as Moscow Bureau Chief and as a war correspondent in the Balkans and Chechnya. He left NPR for Slate in the early 2000’s, convinced that the Internet was the future of spoken word audio. He’s very grateful that, after years of being told audio was a dying medium, he now gets to be part of its resurgence. It turns out a lot of people really love getting information and entertainment without having to stare at a screen.
