Trained as a chemist, I have over 30 years of experience working in public health and communicable diseases across Asia and the Pacific and in the US. My work has spanned the gamut from basic medical research to clinical trials to support access to life-saving medicines to health policy advocacy. I currently serve as an independent health policy advisor with a focus on Southeast Asia and as Co-Chair of the XSPI-RAM Timor-Leste and NTT Province Malaria Elimination Project Task Force. As a leader, I cultivate holistic approaches to combating disease by integrating research with education and advocacy into effective and sustainable approaches for supporting disease control and elimination. I strongly believe in a people-centered approach and building trust and effective collaboration between key stakeholders including communities, NGOs, academic institutions, public health institutions, government leaders, private sector, international development agencies, and donors is key to advancing the healthcare outcomes we want to see. I have developed and nurtured public-private partnerships with WHO, U.S. NIH, USAID, Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the Global Fund, and numerous corporate and private sector partners to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare access and delivery in the Asia-Pacific region. I am extremely proud of my work while serving as the chief operating officer for the Asia Pacific Leaders malaria Alliance (APLMA), a regional malaria elimination policy platform convened by 18 heads of government through the East Asia Summit. In taking on the role of COO in 2016, I played a key role in establishing the small, nimble, and innovative Secretariat as a charitable foundation in Singapore and creating a supportive and entrepreneurial environment for a team that punched well above its weight to accelerate regional malaria elimination efforts throughout Asia and the Pacific. Prior to joining APLMA in 2015, I led other public health, research and policy platforms in Asia and the US, including Asia Regional Director of the Worldwide Antimalarial Drug Resistance Network (WWARN) at Oxford University, Director of Research at TREAT Asia, a programme of the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), amfAR Director of Clinical Research, and amfAR Director of Public and Professional Education.
