The beautiful journey to have the chance to develop and provide affordable mental health services for children, teens and parents since 2008 and see the positive outcomes on them continues to encourage me to work harder and help more people to be in a better place. The last successful program I created is addressing the issue of Screen Addiction with the teens. The program is called Screen Addiction Intensive Outpatient Program (SAP-IOP). Being able to provide an evidence based treatment to support families and being present for them for 2 months, several times a week via face to face sessions, phone or email when they are in crisis was a positive accomplishment. Being addicted to video games, social media or internet is a symptom of one or more mental health diagnosis. It is the tip of the iceberg that hides many problems under the water. At the end, the teens and the parents can't get out of this icy water alone. They need professional help. Screen addiction can hide depression, social anxiety, ADHD, Autism, or trauma. In the Screen Addiction IOP my team has tremendously contributed to help these families to move from the crisis mode to a normal and happier life. My previous experience building and providing programs for children, teens and families was already in the mental health field. I had learned to write manuals, create schedule and a functioning program for teens who were severely anxious, depressed, suicidal or were refusing to go to school. Giving the opportunity to provide programs for families who are in crisis and in the fear of losing their child forever and feel reassured at the end of the program has encouraged me to do more for them. Working with families who did not know what to do to help their child, I realized that over the past 5 years one obstacle was becoming bigger: The addiction to the screen via different technologies. Now I have been able to help families to get through the challenge of multiple mental health issues and the addiction to the screen. I am looking for more space and more locations and more amazing professionals to continue to provide the right care for children, teens and families and help them to find a better balance in their life while they have to face mental health problems.
