Dr. Ilyas is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Fellowship Program Director of Hand Surgery at the Rothman Institute at Jefferson. Dr. Ilyas is also President of the Rothman Opioid Foundation as well as Past President of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. Most recently, Dr. Ilyas has joined Drexel Med as an Associate Dean of Clinical Research and Vice Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Ilyas specializes in hand, wrist, elbow injuries, nerve surgery, and orthopaedic trauma surgery. He has a particular interest in fracture surgery, nerve injuries, opioids and pain management in orthopaedic surgery, and "wide awake hand surgery." Dr. Ilyas also serves as the Head Consulting Hand Surgeon to the Philadelphia 76’ers and Philadelphia Eagles. Dr. Ilyas is an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of Drexel University. After medical school he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at Temple University Hospital. He subsequently completed his fellowship as a Harvard Fellow at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston prior to returning to the Philadelphia area. He recently returned to New England to complete an Executive MBA at Brown University. In addition to his busy clinical practice, Dr. Ilyas is a dedicated educator. He maintains a full academic schedule which includes serving as a Professor of Orthopaedics training Jefferson’s medical students, residents, and fellows. He lectures extensively both nationally and internationally. He has published over 200 scientific studies and papers, authored several textbook chapters, and serves as an editor and reviewer for multiple journals and textbooks. More recently, Dr. Ilyas has launched a new open access journal, SurgiColl, which is focused on the surgical specialties. Beyond his clinical practice and academic responsibilities, Dr. Ilyas is also a busy consultant. He is involved in the design and development of various fracture and joint replacement implants for the upper extremity, and other technologies used by hand surgeons. He also regularly serves as a Legal Expert on Orthopaedic injuries. Dr. Ilyas is annually recognized as a “Top Doc” in Philadelphia and Main Line Today magazines. Most recently, he was privileged to be the top ranked Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon among his peers in Main Line Today.
