In 1953 a group of leaders in Perry and Spencer counties recognized that telecommunications was the new frontier. If they were to stimulate economic development and apply for newly amended government loans, they had to improve the quality of life for everyone and build an infrastructure for telephone service that could take advantage of the progress made by rural electric cooperatives. In a moment of inspiration, those leaders pooled their resources and local telephone companies and created Perry-Spencer Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. In 1995, Perry Spencer Communications, Inc. (PSC) subsidiary was created and offered local (toll-free) Internet access to Perry, Spencer and Dubois counties. Working with the West Central division of the Small Business Development Center as a graphic/market specialist was a great opportunity. This experience lead to small market branding, logo and brand development, plus client/designer interaction. Since then, I've been the in-house graphic designer for a state trade association and, now, currently working for a rural telecommunications company. Working with a non-profit organization made me cognizant in designing and marketing on a budget, plus understand how to represent an organization on a state level. My current in-house design work for a for-profit organization has expanded my background and developed my focus on branding one particular product. My eight year advertising and marketing agency experience and current freelance design contract work cannot go overlooked. As a previous freelancer for Shyne Agency, I have gained valuable skills in logo design and market branding as well as the comprehensive design responsibility for 15 to 30 page product catalogs. Nationally known clients include Frogg Toggs and Vicious® Fishing. My five-year freelance work for Perry County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) gave me the opportunity to develop a new brand look and implement said look into all advertising and marketing materials. Connections with PCMH has led to freelance design for Baptist Memorial Hospital Cancer Center in Memphis, TN.
