Reporter
Breaking News, data & opinions in business, sports, entertainment, travel, lifestyle, plus much more. Newsday.com is the leading news source for Long Island & NYC.
I'm a reporter for KNKX (formerly KPLU), a National Public Radio affiliate in Seattle and Tacoma. Previously, I was a staff reporter at Newsday in New York. As a freelancer, I contributed regularly to The Wall Street Journal, where I wrote about demographic changes in New York City's suburbs, mass murderers, endangered salamanders, wildfires, transit-oriented development, Lou Reed, municipal budget gimmicks, algae, etc. I've been published online by The Atlantic and National Geographic, and appeared as a guest on The Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC. I've also regularly contributed radio stories to WSHU, a National Public Radio affiliate in Connecticut. I've reported on the Newtown shooting, the Boston Marathon bombing, the Washington Navy Yard shooting, superstorm Sandy, the Metro-North Railroad derailment, the West Side Highway biker chase, and other national breaking news. I was once mugged outside the Bronx Zoo while reporting a story about turtles. I like stories that require me to wade into bodies of water, knock on strangers' doors, meet people surreptitiously in coffee shops, build spreadsheets, and do math (not necessarily all on the same assignment).
