Originally from Montana, I relocated to California in 1984 with the US Navy. After serving 6 years and gathering valuable computing knowledge, I entered the competitive IT market in San Diego. I have held many positions managing and supporting computer software and hardware which led me to a position at the new CSU San Marcos campus as a system administrator of the diverse Library Systems. I began building websites for the campus in the early years of the Internet, when Mosaic was the only available platform. I was discovered there by a defense contractor with commercial intentions and was recruited and ultimately hired to lead their software development team. Over the years, my role evolved into a CTO position responsible for IT systems, strategy and software development. In 2004, the company was acquired by a commercial company who was looking to diversify. I was immediately named CIO of the new parent while maintaining his CTO responsibilities for the government business. As the commercial company continued to grow by acquisition of government and defense businesses they began divesting of its commercial holding. In 2008, I transitioned into the role of Director of Information Compliance. In this role I established and maintained IT SOX controls as well as IT audit standards to fulfill SEC requirements for public companies. During this time I was called upon to act as the interim CIO on 3 separate occasions, while maintaining all other job responsibilities. Throughout my career, I have adopted a "whatever it takes to get the job done" approach which has served the business well.
