Acquisitions aren't a strategy. Acquisitions can help advance a strategy. Not every strategic problem should be solved with an acquisition. Yet acquisitions can dramatically transform the course of an organization. I'm a corporate development executive who thinks like an owner. Having led acquisition teams for operating companies for over 20 years, I first want to lead the executive team toward a deeper understanding of its strategic vision. Only then can we begin to ask ourselves if the potential strategic partnership can help advance us toward our desired end-state. Finally, we can evaluate whether we should acquire or partner. My teams would describe me as an aspirational leader. Someone who creates an atmosphere for ideation and continuous improvement in a spirit of an inclusive intellectual meritocracy. I believe that diverse teams always outperform individuals. In my current role of Weatherstone Advisors, I guide EdTech companies through all phases of corporate development and M&A. I'm also co-founder of Undaunted Futures, a nonprofit that provides mentored learning to underserved youth of color and those impacted by poverty. I was previously Chief Strategy Officer of Stride Learning (formerly K12) where I led the incubation of career readiness education which transitioned the company from an K-12 charter school operator to a lifelong learning company. I was part of the founding executive team that incubated the Sylvan International University Venture from a $40M startup to Laureate Education, a $4B global network of universities serving more than 1M students. In this capacity, I played a leading role in process reengineering and corporate finance infrastructure development to drive market expansion. At my core I'm a servant leader that always strives to put the goals of the organization above my personal ambitions.
