Responsibilities The Staff Chief Engineer is a direct report to the Chief Engineer and responsible for the maintenance, administration, supervision, and safe operation of all engine room machinery and interior equipment. It is within the Staff Chief Engineer's authority to expand or to add to any engineering officer’s duties as necessary for the safe operation of the vessel. The Staff Chief Engineer: Consults daily with the Chief Engineer concerning policies for the maintenance and upkeep of the engine department. Due attention shall be paid to the ongoing maintenance and support of all machinery, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, their control apparatus and associated safety equipment and all accommodation service systems equipment. Provides assistance to the Safety Officer when necessary and calls weekly meetings to assure active involvement and completion of safety related work taskings. Ensures all equipment failures or systems failures are reported and repaired at the first opportunity. Is responsible to the Chief Engineer for protecting ship's property against loss or damage and against irregular or wasteful practices on the part of any member of the Engine Department. Routinely inspects all machinery and equipment and reports any deficiencies to the Chief Engineer. Provides general oversight to keep machinery and equipment history records up-to-date. Ensures that the managers and engineering officers in his/her charge maintain adequate and accurate logs and records. Personally supervise any work of an unusually hazardous nature. Is responsible for the appraisal and the development of assigned engine officers and managers. Supervision The Staff Chief Engineer oversees the following direct reports: 2nd Engineer Senior 06-12; 2nd Engineer 00-06; 3rd Engineer Senior 12-18; 3rd Engineer Senior 18-24; 3rd Engineer Engine Room;Facility Maintenance Manager; 4th Engineer Safety & Foreman Waste Handler
