I am a partner in the San Francisco office of Hogan Lovells, focusing on high tech clients. I have significant experience in comprehensive strategic intellectual property (IP) portfolio development and management. I advise clients of all sizes to establish and grow IP portfolios and align intellectual property strategy with business objectives. My practice includes many areas of IP law with an emphasis on portfolio management and analysis, due diligence investigations, post-grant proceedings including IPR and PGR before the PTAB, patent interference proceedings, pre-litigation analysis, comprehensive strategic client counseling, opinion work, and licensing. I also have extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, preparing trademark and copyright applications, and performing clearance investigations. My industry experience is vast and includes hardware and software, Internet and database applications, computer graphics and animation, unmanned vehicles, cloud computing, clean technologies, Web services, consumer products, data migration and recovery, networking, ecommerce, electronic gaming and virtual reality, electronics, semiconductors, optics, plasma processing, materials, solar technology, lasers, and medical devices. My diverse practice has enabled me to provide full service and complex strategic counseling on U.S. patent validity and infringement issues, as well as matters involving patentability and priority of invention issues. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, I was a partner at two nationally known law firms. Before earning my law degree, I was a software engineer developing various ecommerce, database, industrial control and monitoring, and Internet applications. I also worked as an analytical scientist doing materials research, as well as developing software for surface analysis. I bring a unique perspective by blending my legal, technical, and industry experience.
