A person is defined by their beliefs. Beliefs shape actions. My business beliefs are centered around people and culture. Here are a few: I believe in accountability. Accountability is not just a series of metrics or defined actions. Accountability is created in a culture of equality and respect. It spans the corporate ladder. Each individual has a role to play, and everyone is responsible to ensure they are doing their part. When that is not present, distrust, disengagement, and failure follow. I believe a company’s brand says it all. I am not talking about brand identity. Customers don’t care if your logo is green or yellow. They care about the experiences they have interacting with your organization. That means the interactions you have intentionally designed, as well as those that happen spontaneously. How does your AR staff treat your customers? Does your product arrive on time? Each of those is a brand moment. I believe financial success is an outcome of your actions and alignment with customer’s needs. Short term success can be engineered, but long-term success is a result of understanding the market you serve, the capabilities of your team, and consistently doing the right thing for your stakeholders. These beliefs stem from my hands-on experience in a broad range of roles in many enterprises as well as board and advisory positions. I start each new interaction listening and understanding, utilizing my beliefs and background to bring context and perspective to the situation. This allows us to work together at a strategic level to align company goals, assess resource needs, align the company to the market, and create a strong brand through a great customer experience. On a personal note, I am married, live in a small town on a lake, and spend as much time as I can outdoors, or on the couch with my Toller reading business books or great novels. Oh, and I love a good glass of wine and great conversation. Let’s have one.
