I build partnerships because I believe the world's grand challenges cannot be solved in isolation. Over many years I have helped set up a wide range of transformative partnerships that enable us to collectively make a more positive impact on the world. These range from access to higher education for Syrian displaced people, a biomedical research centre in China, and a new global data institute that will grapple with the darkest corners of the internet to protect kids from harm. 'What is your dream?' is a favourite opening question. And then it's into the practicalities of helping partners to co-design a vision, map a pathway for sustainable delivery, and mobilise the funding, teams and momentum to make it happen. As founder of TEDxUniversity of Edinburgh and co-founder of World Access to Higher Education Day, I recognise the power of sharing ideas and opening access to education.
