Mark Costa is Board Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Eastman, a global material innovation company that delivers innovative, sustainable solutions to customers in diverse end markets such as transportation, building and construction, and consumables. During his career at Eastman, Mark has shaped the strategies, capabilities, and culture that have led to the company’s greatest period of growth. Mark has led the company through a major transformation to a leading material innovation company, which began by divesting commodity businesses and acquiring and integrating several specialty companies. Fueling this transformation is Mark’s belief in innovation to create value and fulfill Eastman’s purpose of enhancing the quality of life in a material way. As a champion of sustainable solutions, Mark has overseen the launch of Eastman’s Advanced Circular Recycling technologies, which address the global plastic waste and climate change crises. His passion for inclusion and diversity aspires to create a company culture where employees can bring their true selves to work without fear of bias or discrimination so they can contribute to their fullest potential. In 2006, Mark joined Eastman as Chief Marketing Officer and corporate strategy leader. He was named Executive Vice President with responsibility for Specialty Plastics and Performance Polymers businesses in 2008. The following year, his role was expanded to lead the Specialty Products businesses, supply chain and global innovation and sustainability initiatives. In 2013, Mark was named President and appointed to Eastman’s Board of Directors. He assumed his current position in 2014. Mark serves on the Executive Committee for the American Chemistry Council. He is a member of the Society for Chemical Industries (SCI), The Business Roundtable, and The Business Council. A California native, Mark received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
