Buildings Resources Technology If your $20,000 car can tell you when you need to fill a tire (note: it can), then surely your $200,000,000 building should be able to turn off predictably at night. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did not... If a comparably priced asset, an F1 car, can generate terabytes of data tuning for a single race (seriously, Google it), surely a building or campus can at least reliably store its basic interval data and allow engineers to monitor remotely. Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me if it could not... It's time that buildings got the attention they deserve. Building operating expenses (just OPEX) account for 4-to-5% of US GDP. Commercial buildings alone consume 19% of US primary energy. This is BIG BUSINESS with BIG IMPACT. Let's start paying attention.
