Extensive private and public sector experience in technology, telecommunications and media. Served as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from June 2009 to May 2013, and focused the agency on unleashing the opportunities of wired and wireless broadband. Led development of the National Broadband Plan, and adoption of major initiatives to extend broadband access, free up spectrum, and preserve Internet freedom. FCC named the most improved agency in the federal government and one of Wired magazine’s “top seven disrupters”. In over a decade in the private sector prior to his FCC appointment, helped build IAC/InterActiveCorp, which owned and operated multiple Internet and media businesses including Expedia, Ticketmaster, and USA Network. Genachowski has also served as a special advisor to the private equity firm General Atlantic, launched an early stage tech incubator, and served on the boards of several public and private companies. Listed by Rolling Stone as one of "100 people changing America" and by Business Week as one of 25 "managers to watch" in the media sector. Son of an immigrant engineer and always a technology enthusiast, began his career in the law, serving as a law clerk to Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court, graduating with highest honors from Harvard Law School, and serving on the Harvard Law Review with President Barack Obama. Genachowski has long advised President Obama on technology issues, and was instrumental in developing the 2008 Obama campaign’s Internet strategy. Led the United States delegation to the 65th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
