Laurence (“L.J.”) Fallon serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer for Carle Health (“Carle”), a vertically integrated system which employs more than 16,500 team members and includes as its main components: six (6) acute care hospitals and two (2) critical access hospitals encompassing 1450 beds; three (3) multi-specialty physician groups comprising nearly 2200 physicians and advanced practice providers; a health plan with approximately 250,000 members across six (6) states; Carle Illinois College of Medicine, an accredited college within the University of Illinois system; Methodist College and a multi-line captive insurance company based in Grand Cayman. Mr. Fallon’s current leadership responsibilities include system legal services, enterprise risk management services (insurance, corporate compliance, data & information security and internal audit) and government relations. He also serves as the lead executive for Health Systems Insurance, Limited, Carle’s captive insurance company which underwrites professional and general liability, worker's compensation and certain stop loss risks. Prior to joining Carle, Mr. Fallon practiced at a boutique Chicago law firm where he focused on medical and legal malpractice defense. He gained experience in healthcare professional liability insurance through his employment as a Claims Management Supervisor with the Chicago Hospital Risk Pooling Program and as a Claims Analyst then Supervisor with ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Fallon received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Spanish from Marquette University. He received a Juris Doctor degree with an emphasis in healthcare law from Loyola University of Chicago and is licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois. In addition to his professional responsibilities at Carle, Mr. Fallon served as an Adjunct Instructor in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1996-2022) and as a member of the Audit & Compliance Committee of Catholic Health Initiatives, now CommonSpirit Health (2012 – 2018). He maintains professional memberships in the American Health Lawyers Association, American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, Illinois State Bar Association and Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys.
