The Brookings Institution is a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions. For nearly 100 years, Brookings has analyzed current and emerging issues and produced new ideas that matter-for the nation and the world.
Scott focused on psychological disorders common to children during the first three years of his graduate studies. His master's thesis was a study of diagnosing Oppositional Defiant Disorder using a semi-structured interview. After completing his thesis, he switched his focus to traumatic stress and related disorders. His preliminary exam was an in-depth study of psychotherapy treatments for PTSD, and his dissertation explored Complicated Grief (now Persistent Complex Bereavement Disorder in an appendix of DSM–5) and PTSD among survivors of the April 16th shootings at Virginia Tech. Scott was a recipient of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program and completed his predoctoral internship with the United States Air Force at Wilford Hall, Lackland Air Force Base. His first assignment was to Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS), providing clinic-based and educational services to children of US military families in the United Kingdom. Currently, Scott is serving as a clinical psychologist in the Mental Health Clinic and providing integrated behavioral health services in the Pediatrics Clinic. After his commitment in the Air Force is complete, Scott will be completing a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology to pursue his passion of providing integrated mental health services in hospital clinics. Although Scott has a career as a clinician, he enjoys being involved in research projects—usually as the statistician. Scott also spends a considerable amount of time reviewing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. He is on the editorial board of Behavior Therapy and has been recognized as an outstanding reviewer (90+ percentile for number of manuscripts reviewed). Specialties: Empirically-supported assessment, parent management training, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD, integrated behavioral health (primary care), statistics in the social sciences
