Serving residents in Brooklyn and south Queens, New York, The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center (BUHMC) is a not-for-profit teaching hospital with about 530 beds that offers primary and acute care, as well as specialty services. In addition, the medical center operates about 50 outpatient care centers, including ambulatory surgery, dental, and mental health clinics. It also runs the Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation (with some 450 beds) and the Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion, an assisted and independent living center with nearly 90 beds. The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center was founded in 1921.
