I have over 15 years of experience in applying technology to high-throughput screening. I understood deeply in lab automation and microfluidic technologies (microwell array, droplet emulsion, and integrated fluidic circuits). I believe technologists need to be fully immersed in a process in order to provide the most effective solution. Once technologists experienced the “pain” in the daily work of bench scientists, they will have motivations and capabilities to apply appropriate tools (robotics, microfluidics, software) to make life easier. At Arbor, I developed a 4-step IMPRINT process (Immersion, Improvement, Innovation, and Transfer) for automation group to work with other teams. We have seen 4-10x increase in throughput, 2x decrease in cost, 2x decrease in turnaround time in some key workflows with limited capital investment.
