Notable realised investments include NaturalMotion (the mobile gaming developer, sold to Zynga in 2014), Betfair (the online betting exchange, 2010 IPO), LOVEFiLM (the home entertainment subscription service, sold to Amazon in 2011), MySQL (the open-source database software, sold to Sun Microsystems in 2008) and YOOX Group (the online retailer of leading fashion brands, IPO in 2009). The current portfolio includes innovative companies such as Nutmeg, CrowdCube, 3D Hubs, Globoforce, Kobalt, Openet, Scytl, Talend, The Hut Group, Tictail, Wooga and WorldStores.

Following 30+ years in private practice, I became Head of Legal at Balderton Capital, a leading European technology venture capital firm, in 2018. The legal team, comprising three lawyers, works on investments in European technology businesses, fund matters, on-going relations with portfolio companies, exits, internal legal matters and compliance. In addition to my legal work, I was previously on the management board of a large UK law firm, head of the VC practice, and I also served co-chair of the IBA Corporate Law and M&A Committee. Whilst in private practice, I was regularly rated as a top tier lawyer by both the Chambers Legal Directory and Legal 500 for my work in venture capital matters, and was shortlisted in 2018 in one of the lawyer of the year categories by Legal 500.
