Kurt Rossi Vice President Global Technology Operations Associated Press New York Kurt Rossi is VP Global Technology Operations of Associated Press, which supplies multimedia news to newspapers, radio and television stations and websites as well as news to consumers via smartphones and tablets. He oversees a department of 300 technology specialists, system engineers, broadcast engineers and others as well as a global support staff for AP’s 243 bureaus in 97 countries. Over the past ten years, Kurt helped to engineer a technology transformation that turned AP from an analog wire service to a fully digital, Web-based operation. Key projects include deployment of new editorial systems for AP’s 2,500 print, video and photo journalists, a new HD digital video distribution system, new Web delivery platforms to replace satellite distribution and a new global wide area network. Kurt has been head of Global Operations for five years, overseeing U.S. and international field support of AP journalists and events; support of the main AP multimedia news production centers of New York, London and Washington, DC; the call center; broadcast technology operations, and infrastructure (data centers, networks, servers, etc.) Kurt started his career at AP in 1979 as a technician in New York. In 1982, he was promoted to operations manager, handling domestic technology operations. He moved into the position of international operations manager in 1984. In 1996, Kurt transferred to APTN in London, where he was promoted to director of engineering and communication and successfully managed the technical integration of APTV and WTN into what is now AP’s international broadcast operation. Kurt moved back to the U.S. in 2000 to become director of technology for AP Digital and four years later became director of systems support, responsible for support and implementation of systems and servers in AP’s data centers.
