I am an engineering executive with a passion for leading, scaling, and managing engineering execution, teams, culture, and processes for startups and enterprise organizations. Currently the Vice President of Engineering at 10up, I provide hands on leadership and mentorship to an engineering team of over 60 people. I spend my days empowering, coaching, and inspiring my team of Directors of Engineering to effectively manage their teams, ensure engineering happiness and career growth, and solve project delivery and technology challenges. Reporting directly to the CEO, I drive forward new processes and company policies to improve job satisfaction, profitability, and efficiency such as engineer education programs, standardized deployment plans, and recruiting strategies. I know the ins-and-outs of managing and pushing change at a multi-tiered company where executives and leaders are busy and spread thin. I pride myself on building and fostering a culture of openness, inclusion, respect, ownership, and learning. While management and oversight are my primary responsibilities, I am also very much a software engineer that lives and breathes web technologies. At 10up, I’ve architected and built some of our most complex engineering products and tools such as a ElasticPress, an Elasticsearch based query engine, and WP Acceptance, a acceptance testing framework for WordPress to be integrated with CI pipelines. I also contribute to community and personal open source Node.js, PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress projects and have spoken at web technology conferences all over the world.
