I've had success as Chief Information, Innovation, Technology & Product Officers. I don't fit neatly into a single box, probably because my default is thinking 'outside the box' (whatever that means). Why is there even a box in the first place? I've done every role including software engineering, product management, sales, executive management, angel investing, serving on various advisory boards, and I'm comfortable from code reviews to the board room and everything in between. Many technologists disagree with me, but I think all code is a liability. For every line of code you write, you have to analyze, design, write, debug, QA, maintain, test, scale, integrate, and consider its adverse effects. The best code may be the code you didn't have to write.I also love open source. It's like having thousands of extra developers on your team. And contributing back to it makes your organization and the world a better place.
