Extensive social science research training (PhD ABD in sociology) and more than 10 years’ experience working in a variety of research roles. In my most recent position, I designed user research for both B2B enterprise clients and a community of crowd-source contributors. Examples of projects include: longitudinal data collection for stages along client life-cycle, in-person and remote user acceptance tests, a variety of surveys, and an event-history analysis using archived behavioral data. Research outcomes from these projects drove product innovations. My foundation of rigorous methodological training and experience researching in various settings wrought a wealth of hard-won knowledge which informs my general research approach: • Systematic research design, drawing on existing literature for conceptualization and measurement is always my starting place. But sometimes identifying indicators requires a little creativity. Luckily, I’m a sociologist. We excel at kicking in open doors. • I believe research questions should drive research methods and it’s important to be versatile. Qualitative methods improved my descriptions of quantitative findings and quantitative methods drove empirical precision into my qualitative discussions. My qualitative master’s thesis would have been twice and long and half as meaningful if without focused findings.
