Joe Mertens is the president and CEO of Sirius Computer Solutions. He was named to the position August of 2011. Prior to that, he served as President from 2008 - 2011. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president presiding over marketing, business development and strategic alliances. He was named to the position in May 2002, after returning to the company to lead the company’s business growth strategy. Mr. Mertens offers extensive experience in his role. He began his career with Sirius Computer Solutions, (then known as Star Data Systems) and was named executive vice president with primary responsibilities to lead the sales and operations teams of the wholesale and distribution divisions. In 1997, those divisions were sold and renamed Business Partner Solutions (BPS) as a subsidiary of Savoir Technology Group, and Mr. Mertens was appointed president and CEO. In 1999, BPS was consolidated into Savoir Technology Group and Mr. Mertens took the helm as president and chief operating officer. He was responsible for all sales and operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. During his tenure at Savoir, he grew sales from $237.9 million in 1997 to $767.2 million in 1999 through a combination of organic growth and the integration of six acquisitions. In July 2000, Avnet Computer Marketing purchased Savoir Technology Group and Mr. Mertens was named executive vice president and general manager of the IBM Business Unit, where he was credited with growing sales to $981 million in 2000. Phoenix-based Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), a Fortune 500 company, posted sales of $12.8 billion in that fiscal year. In July 2001, Mr. Mertens moved into a consulting role for Avnet and was named executive vice president of Business Development until he rejoined Sirius in 2002. Specialties: Mr. Mertens has received numerous awards, including the prestigious IBM Lifetime Achievement Award. In May 2009, Sirius was awarded its eleventh consecutive IBM Business Partnership Leadership Award in addition to being recognized with IBM Beacon Awards each of the last six years.
