Manager of Asset Management
Today SEPTA is the nation?s fifth largest public transportation system, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region. SEPTA is also one of the region?s largest employers, with a workforce of about 9,000 employees.
Laura Zale is the Manager of Asset Management at the Southeastern Transportation Authority. Her work in developing an asset management program, coordinating construction projects with Amtrak, and performing public relations for SEPTA’s “Building the SEPTA Future” program have enabled to Laura to learn the public transportation business from the ballast up. Laura is the principal author of SEPTA's Transit Asset Management Plan. Laura has a passion for collaborating with transit agency peers to advance the practice of asset management, and she sits on several national asset management committees. She is the Chair of APTA's State of Good Repair Working Group and the Co Chair of APTA's Performance Based Planning Committee. She was the Transit Chair for the TRB’s 10th, 11th, and 12th Transportation Asset Management Conferences. Laura facilitates the Authority’s “Tour de EM&C” and Junior Engineer training programs. She holds degrees in Civil and Architectural Engineering from Drexel University.
