David Rae is Head of LDI Solutions, EMEA with Russell Investments. Based in London, David is responsible for the design, construction and management of all LDI solutions for clients in the EMEA region. These strategies form are crucial to the management of the funding level objectives of Russell’s UK and European pension fund clients. David is chair of Russell’s LDI steering committee which is accountable for the LDI research agenda and client portfolio positioning. Between 2006 and 2012, David was responsible for Russell’s derivative overlay business in the region. In this role, he was responsible for developing and implementing derivative based solutions for Russell’s institutional clients. Strategies included asset allocation overlays, liability hedging, currency overlays and options strategies. Before joining the overlay services group, David was a consultant in Russell’s Auckland office. He was responsible for the delivery of a full range of investment services, including consulting and asset management, to New Zealand clients. David joined Russell’s Auckland office in 2004. Between 2000 and 2004, David was a consultant in Russell’s London office, where he was responsible for providing consulting advice to a range of clients. He has worked with institutional investors in several European countries on a wide range of investment–related issues. David was particularly associated with the area of asset-liability management and was part of the team developing and implementing Russell’s strategic asset allocation capabilities for European clients. He joined Russell in 2000. Before joining Russell, David worked at Railpen Investments where he was involved in running eight externally managed pooled funds for the railway industry-wide pension scheme. David was also responsible for providing investment and performance analysis for trustees and sponsoring employers.
