The Republic Polytechnic was set up on 1 August 2002 through the passage of The Republic Polytechnic Act 2002 by Parliament. The Polytechnic received its first intake of over 800 students in July 2003 at its Tanglin Campus. It has moved to its permanent campus in Woodlands since March 2006 and supports 14,000 students. The first educational institution in Singapore to leverage the Problem-based Learning approach for all its diploma programmes, Republic Polytechnic (RP) has six schools and two academic centres offering thirty-nine diplomas in Applied Science, Engineering, Enterprise and Communication, Events and Hospitality, Infocomm, Sports, Health & Leisure, and Technology for the Arts. Bio

Ronald has 40 years experience in hospitality, retail, HR management & development, journalism, event management, PR and marcomm. As RP's Director, Corporate Communications (2010 to Dec 2017), he oversaw planning/execution of strategic Branding/Marcomms through mainstream & social media, school outreach, collateral, websites & events. He coordinated RP's mega year-long 10th Anniversary Celebrations; which hosted President Tony Tan Keng Yam at a gala performnace/dinner in The Republic Cultural Centre. A perception survey (2016) by Forbes Research, showed public awareness of RP as positive consistently. In Jan 18, Ronald became adviser & deputy chair Publicity Sub-Committee WorldSkills Singapore 2018 & WorldSkills ASEAN 2020. Before RP, he was Group Account & Regional Development Director, Mileage Communications, Singapore's largest local PR group, focussing in media/analyst relations, marcomms, CSR, media training, crisis management. He was Fleishman-Hillard PR's VP/Group Manager, Corporate, Finance and Industry practice, Head Consumer & Healthcare in 2006 for strategic counselling and media comms, healthcare and corporate/media relations for aviation, insurance, lifestyle and pharmaceutical/healthcare. As AP Communications Director, regional HQ Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV); an enterprise solutions provider, he supported Avaya’s US$100m sponsorship at FIFA World Cup® 2002, Korea/Japan, FIFA Women’s World Cup® 2003 and FIFA World Cup® Germany 2006. Ronald was Director (Strategic Marketing) at Ogilvy PR, Marketing Manager (Royal Copenhagen/Georg Jensen) and Journalist at Singapore Press Holdings. At Oberoi Hotels (1978 - 1987), he was Training & Manpower Development Manager, Senior Lobby Manager, Personnel Director. Education: Bachelor of Arts (Economics/Statistics), Singapore University, Graduate Diploma in Hospitality Management (1980); post-graduate diplomas in Personnel Management, Training & HR Development, and Retail Management.
