As a Data Scientist my job is a balance between using the scientific method to empower rational decision-making for both Product Managers and using machine learning algorithms to craft useful data products for members. I am passionate about using LinkedIn data to help students decide what skills,schools and courses they should pick up to supercharge their career. My preferred toolkit includes Scala and Scalding on Hadoop for large-scale data processing and aggregation, Python for smaller scale munging (Pandas) and predictive modeling (Scikit-Learn), and D3 or ggplot for data visualization. I am enthusiastic about natural language processing and text mining and I have experience with training random forest for large scale classification in production environments. I am competent enough with webdev work to create quick prototype APIs and visualization websites.
