Thomas Blaschke is the former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at RAND and led the Information Security group until his retirement in December 2022. He was responsible for overseeing information security across the RAND enterprise and for the protection of RAND information. As CISO, Thomas led the expansion of the Information Security group and established a strategic security vision taking into account new and emerging cyber threats, evolving technology and RAND’s unique research needs. He spearheaded a major reinvestment in information security systems including the overhaul of security infrastructure, expansion of network defenses and strengthening server and endpoint security. In addition, he drove security contributions in cloud, mobile and high performance computing initiatives. Thomas continues to works closely with U.S. government clients and sponsors to ensure compliance with federal security regulations and provide strong safeguards for protecting data. Thomas’ career spans more than 40 years across the IT spectrum including leadership positions in IT operations, applications development, systems engineering and research computing. During this time, he established a track record for strong leadership, innovative thinking, and team building. Thomas is an experienced security and systems architect knowledgeable in networks design, security architecture, and system engineering. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles.
